7 Steps to Stardom

I have been coaching for over four years.  I enjoy what I do and enjoy working with my clients helping them to achieve the goals that they set out for themselves.  As an extension to my coaching practice, NGenius Empire Artist Development was born to aid in the building of the various artist that I have come into contact with over the years.  Being an artist myself, I think that it is important to take the journey with my clients.

I've spoken to a number of Singers, Dancers, Writers and Actors about their careers and some have actually asked me if I could make them into a star.  My response is very candid and humorous.  I tell them that NOBODY can make them ANYTHING, however, I will support them as their coach, helping them to achieve their goals.

Here are 7 steps to get you started on the road to stardom.  Feel free to comment or pass along the information.

Step #1:  BIO
  • Answer the questions: Who am I and what do I want?
  • In this step, you are crafting your bio detailing who you are, where you came from, your background and your aspirations.
Step #2:  PURPOSE
  • Identify your purpose.
  • Identifying your purpose will provide you with a sense of direction and focus. Often times, artists see the end result and want to get there on a fast track, but it takes a considerable amount of work to get there. Nothing happens overnight as we all know.
  • Write a mission statement or a mantra to live by. Be original.
  • My personal mantra is: Life is God's movie. Play your part.
Step #3:  STAR QUALITY
  • Have a professional photograph taken.
  • Create a web presence.
  • Free portals like www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com are great to start.
  • Post your bio, mission statement, photo and anything else you are willing to share.
  • Be bold.  Be colorful and  be creative.  Most of all have fun! But keep it professional.
Step #4:  FIND FANS

  • Using social media outlets such as: Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, you can begin to find people who enjoy what you have to say and even what you look like.
  • A good spring board for finding your fanbase is to start with your friends and family.
  • Ask everyone to suggest at least 10 of their friends to visit your website or blog. Those who like it will follow you, those that don't will be missing out.
Step #5:  EXPLOIT YOURSELF
  • Stand out from the crowd. Have unique business cards printed with your name, website and contact information on them.
  • Boost your self esteem by putting your face on them. This is your portable billboard.
  • Sharpen your networking skills. Attend networking events and rub shoulders with people in your industry.
  • Make public appearances and be sure everyone knows your name.
Step #6:  LOOK TO THE SKY
  • It is important to keep your head up and one sure fire way to do this is to look to the sky.
  • Create a vision board.  Place yourself among the stars you wish to be surrounded by.
  • I personally like Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, Will Smith and Anderson Cooper.
Step #7:  BE UNSTOPPABLE!
  • Surround yourself with people who believe in YOU.
  • Learn to champion yourself.
  • Remind yourself daily that YOU are the ONE. Say it in the mirror. Post reminders on your computer, work stations and even your cell phone.
  • If you don't believe that you are the ONE, no one else will.
  • Remember after every NO, there is a YES waiting to be discovered. Keep going until you find it.
  • Your time is NOW!

Notes from Nathan: I don't know what to say

re you one of those people who want to say something to someone else but are sometimes at a loss for words?  Well, I'm here to tell you that if you know the English language, there is no such thing.  People have been saying that they are at a loss for words for as long as I can remember and my take on that is.  SAY IT OUT LOUD and work through it.  I have found that saying what you feel out loud, breaks the ice and it also put the other person at ease.  We get caught up in wanting to say the right thing in our daily situations, and there really is no 'right thing', we put too much pressure on ourselves.  Don't overthink!

If you are in a situation and you seek to gain the attention of the other person, take the risk and approach that person.  Have fun with it.  Start with a joke or a compliment.  Ask them how they are doing.  We live in a world that is fastly changing our social skills.  I recently found out that young adults aren't learning the art of manuscript.  I learned how to write in the 2nd grade.  I was told that since we have emails and texting, that the students don't need to learn to write.  That's a no pass for me.  How will these young people grow up to crafting their signatures to sign their checks?  Will the art of letter writing someday be a thing of the past?

The next time you are 'at a loss for words'...  Simply make your way through it by saying "I would really like to have a conversation with you, I don't care what it's about but I'm starting with "Hello!"

I challenge you to begin new conversations with people you don't know.  You may learn something new about yourself and definitely the other person.  Get out there and have fun!  LIVE!

Testimonials ~

In our first few meetings, Nathan’s calm demeanor, pointed questions, and expert listening skills helped to reassure me that finding a coach was a good decision, and that I was on the right track. Over the course of two months, I began to slowly realize how worthy I was, and how much my close friends and family recognized my beauty. The essence conversation proved to really hammer into my head just how special and gifted I am. Nathan helped me to identify three projects for us to tackle together that required my undivided attention: Getting Paid for Freelance Writing, Improving Relationships, and launching my website, TheCoolAid.com. Sticking to my assigned deadlines proved to be more difficult than I imagined, but I looked forward to getting my encouraging kick in the ass from Nathan each week. No matter what issues I threw at him, he was always able to counteract my negativity with amazing ideas for getting my projects off the ground, and for promoting myself as a writer. I always looked forward to his morning text messages and emails, and discovered that having a personal cheerleader put a lot more pep in my step.

What I found to be most life changing was our work in the area of relationships. I often considered myself somewhat of a functional recluse, but through Nathan’s guidance I was able to shed that image of myself. I began to seek out friendships and conversations, attended more networking events, and even threw a dinner party at my apartment that turned out to be a huge success. I’m certain that I wouldn’t have accomplished any of this without the push (and the deadlines) that I received each week. To this day, I’m reaping the social benefits of those two months of intense coaching.

Nathan is a dynamic Coach, full of energy. He got right on board with me and my projects, inspired me toward action, and helped me get the ball really rolling. And it hasn't stopped since!! Nathan is a great listener with a big heart and a willingness to take you to the next level in your process and your life. He is full of ideas and a lot of fun to work with. It's inspiring, too, to know that you're being coached by someone who practices and uses in his own life, the same tools that he asks you to use. A person of integrity and great spirit, Nathan is a wonderful Life Coach.

Mr. Scott was very professional and provided challenging yet practical solutions to aiding me with stepping out of my comfort zone, proceeding forward with unfinished personal projects and even pursuing new endeavors. Individuals who have known me for years have noticed the positive change in my demeanor and more importantly I do. I am more motivated to setting goals than before and attribute this in part to working with a coach.

It was a pleasure working with Mr. Scott and anyone who has the opportunity to be coached by him will benefit greatly.

Dear Oprah Campaign ~

Dear Friend:

You have the privileged opportunity to be a part of something truly incredible without any cost to you. Not just to revolutionize the way we see our youth as the future leaders of the world, but to be a part of developing them into the kinds of leaders that will have the skills, knowledge and resources to make a difference.

There is a shift of consciousness happening in the world – an awakened sense of involvement in and responsibility for creating and living the future we say we want to have. There is a heightened sense of the ability to be at cause for what we allow to exist in our lives. So while you could sit back and continue your day, ignoring this letter entirely, you could just as easily take a minute and reflect on what you’ve done lately to contribute to the greater good of humanity, to creating a better future. In your support of this campaign, you can actually have a hand in producing that bright future.

Dear Oprah is a short film that documents a six day journey in the wilderness of South Africa, developing a group of 10 underprivileged and under-acknowledged youth into the leaders they are capable of being. The initiative for this campaign is to have it seen by 100,000 people by December 25, 2009 and to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show in February 2010. Our goal is to raise awareness around the vital need to educate and develop our future leaders across the world.

How can you support this cause?
1. View and forward the trailer for this short film to your friends and family. www.youtube.com/ngeniusempire
2. Go to www.oprah.com and send Oprah an email telling her that you heard about the movie and you want to see more. In doing so, please mention where you found it by cutting and pasting this link into your message. www.youtube.com/ngeniusempire .

Imagine what would be possible for young adults like these with the resources we as a community can offer them.

Thank you for your time and support in making this dream a reality.

Yours truly,

Nathan “Seven” Scott

What is Life Coaching? ~

Life coaching — or personal coaching, as it is sometimes called — is a powerful partnership designed to enhance and forward the lifelong process of human learning, effectiveness and fulfillment.
It is a tool to help you clarify what is most important to you and to accomplish your goals more quickly and effectively.
It’s about allowing yourself to dream big and then believing that you can make it happen.
Coaching requires the courage to take a hard, honest look at what is and isn’t working in your life. A Life Coach is someone who will help you see all your possibilities -- and help you make them happen now.
Coaching helps you see both the forest and the trees.
Coaching explores new possibilities creating new habits and getting rid of old ones.
Coaching is not therapy, counseling or consulting. Life Coaching looks to the present and the future, helping you determine where you are, where you want to go, and how best to get there.
Who Can Benefit from Life Coaching?
Professional or personal life coaching is an amazing tool for anyone who wants to take control of his or her life.
It's for you if you're:

  • in transition -- or wanting to make any kind of important change
  • trying to get past a creative block
  • trying to better manage your time or money
  • wanting to be a better parent and still have time for yourself
  • trying to figure out what's next now that your kids are off to college
  • trying to balance work and family
